- But what is really the function marketing?
That's a question I often ask entrepreneurs, financial managers and accountants, especially when the income of the company are under budget or not meet expectations.
Some, perhaps most, mistakenly believe that the only function of marketing is "to generate sales," when the sale is a consequence or result of the planning, implementation and monitoring of various marketing activities.
Others, however, mistakenly think that marketing is function of promoting a product properly so that it is sold, when some marketing activities are conducted before the product exists (eg, identification of marketing opportunities and market research).
Then, taking into account this scenario, it is vital that marketers are those who disseminate the basic concepts of marketing within companies or organizations that provide services, so that just as most employers and employees know what is the role of financial, administrative, production and human resources, likewise know what is the function marketing.

"The marketing function is the identification of target customers and meeting their needs and wants in a competitive and profitable for the company or organization, all through the analysis of market planning various marketing activities, implementation of planned activities and control the progress and achievements "
